Recent, not yet officially published AMD roadmaps unfold that the youngest Radeon generation, which is expected to be released not later than 2011 and also be compatible with DirectX 11, shall be named N. Islands. With the introduction of the HD 5000 series the label Evergreen, on which all graphic chips are based, was born.
We already exclusively reported about the codenames Cozumel, Ibiza and Kauai, which suddenly appeared in the newest Catalyst versions, one month ago. Now it is quite certain that those are already the codenames of upcoming Radeon generations, even though it is undetermined which chip represents low-cost, mainstream and high-end.
Another quite interesting detail, based on the roadmap, is the out of 32 nm wide structures built-on graphic chip generation. Lately it was suspected that already the new 28 nm process would be used, but as AMD still trusts the 32 nm the prematurely release date, namly Q3/2010, seems theoretically to be possible and simultaneously backs that the graphic chips are not crafted by TSMC anymore, but insted by Globalfoundries.
On a technical view no features, except of the new UVD 3.0 generation and DirectX 11 support, are commonly known.
